Why I love to teach
I love seeing the ‘Ah-ha’ moments people have when they understand something and realise that this piece of knowledge can be applied to so many different areas.
My experience
I spent 8 years working as a pastry chef in NSW and WA. While completing my apprenticeship (Certificate III in Retail Baking) I was a finalist in the Australian Baking Association Pastry competition.
My experience centers around patisserie products such tortes, cheesecakes, tarts, mousses, biscuits and laminated pastries such as croissants and danish.
I completed a 6 months worth of weekend work experience with an award winning Celebration cake business in WA, which was incredible; I was able to gain a very basic understanding of sugar flower production and techniques on fondant cakes.
My teaching style
I teach the way I learn – a visual demonstration to my students, then some hands on practice before going on to complete the actual product.
Something unique/interesting about me
The longest I’ve ever kept a plant alive is 8 months, and they are hydro plants – so I know they need water when the jar is empty!
My qualifications
Certificate II in Hospitality Operations, Certificate III in Retail Baking (Pastry) and Certificate III in Business. I worked in the hospitality industry for 17 years before changing career directions completely and now I work in an office based role.
