Port Hunter Toastmasters
Resume
Why I love to teach
The Public Speaking course offered by Atwea College is run by members of the Port Hunter Toastmasters Club, part of the Toastmasters International organisation. Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organisation that teaches public speaking and leadership skills through a worldwide network of clubs.
My experience
Port Hunter Toastmasters Club has been running weekly club meetings in Newcastle since 1979, and has been delivering the Public Speaking course offered by Atwea College for over 10 years. Many of the club members are former Atwea College students who have taken the Public Speaking course themselves in the past.
My teaching style
The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide a mutually supportive and positive learning environment in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence and personal growth. The emphasis in this course is on ‘learning by doing’. Participants will learn how to construct and deliver an effective speech, they will develop their impromptu speaking skills, and they will gain insights from providing constructive feedback to others, all in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
Something unique/interesting about me
In the final week of the course students attend a Port Hunter Toastmasters Club meeting for a graduation ceremony and will have the opportunity to deliver a speech on the night if they wish.
My qualifications
With more than 300,000 members in 149 countries, Toastmasters International have been helping people become more confident speakers, communicators, and leaders since 1924.
