Why I love to teach
It is a very rewarding experience to share a common interest with others, who soon become your friends, and I receive as much pleasure from teaching Italian as much as they love to learn it.
My experience
I have been Tutoring in Italian at the Newcastle WEA since 2004 and also at the Community College prior to the merger with WEA
I posses Practical experience in training and general tutoring, from individuals and to larger teams of Personnel. For 5 years I held the position of Training and Safety Coordinator in the Industrial sector, for some 170 personnel, for both Senior and Wages’ Staff.
The Role entailed, among others, the execution of Competency Training to achieve goals for Safety and Industrial’s requirements for all Staff in the Business Unit.
My teaching style
My approach is relaxed and interactive. Although some grammar is an important component of the learning process, my main focus is on the development of conversational skills.
Something unique/interesting about me
I have always managed to inspire my students with a passion to learn the ‘bella lingua’ and the discovery of the Italian culture.
My qualifications
I am a “native speaker” and completed my junior high schooling in Italy and remain fluent in my mother tongue. I completed the “old” Leaving Certificate in 1960, with Italian as a subject for matriculation at the University of Sydney.
I am a BA (English Majors) and Grad. Certificate Business Adm. from Newcastle University; and have attended many formal training Courses and Seminars in Teaching/Training from TAFE and other Professional Development bodies (eg. BHP Staff Training, etc)
