Why I love to teach
I really enjoy being able to pass on my knowledge to the people I have had the privilege to support. Especially in the deliver of the Standard Mental Health First Aid and the Youth Mental Health First Aid courses I have seen the skills and knowledge of the participants being utilized and acknowledged as a common challenge that has been part off our lives. Whether personally or in the people we contact each day.
My experience
I have loved teaching since I qualified as a High School Teacher in 1990. While I taught High School locally as a casual, I found my calling was in Welfare. Since 1995 I have worked in a variety of roles in Welfare where my educational experience has assisted me to train fellow employees and the communities that I have provided services to. These courses that I have learnt and delivered have been built on the Strengths based model as well as the Trauma Informed Interventions, this is especially true of the last 11 years when I have worked in Out Of Home Care.
My teaching style
I would see my style as engaging and respectful exploration of Mental Health interventions acknowledging that all of the participants are experts in their own lives and have the resilience and ability to bring personal experiences and input into every session that we spend together.
Something unique/interesting about me
I was in the Army Reserve, in Transport Core, for 11 years.
My qualifications
I have a Bachelor of Arts, Diploma in Education.
I am a Children and Residential Experience Presenter, a Therapeutic Crisis Intervention- Families Presenter, a Shared Lives Trainer and a Step By Step Assessor for Out of Home Care.
