Shibori Textile Dyeing Workshop

What is Shibori?

Shibori consists of various textile tying, stitching, and compressing techniques to form different impressions on fabric.  Within each technique, there are diverse variations making different markings to achieve the desired outcome.  It is the variations that open the endless possibilities that come from shibori.

Learn the art of Japanese Shibori textile dyeing in this one-day workshop with Karen Davis of Shibori. In this beginner workshop, you will learn the magic indigo dye, including how to create unique textiles using traditional fabric folding and clamping techniques.

At the end of this course, you will produce a range of textile samples and a silk scarf using your favourite shibori techniques. These dyeing techniques can then be transferred to create unique homewares, gifts, and upcycle garments.

Requirements

• Enclosed Shoes
• Apron (clothes may get dye on them, do NOT wear anything that is precious to you)
• Plastic Shopping bags
• Something to Dye (Natural Fibre Shirts, Cushion Covers, Pillowcases, etc)
• Notebook and Pen
• Gloves 
• Camera
• Your imagination!

At Atwea College we offer a wide variety of Business, Lifestyle & Leisure courses at various locations throughout Newcastle, the Hunter Region and the Mid North Coast.

Course enrolment must be accompanied by a fee; we are unable to hold places for people or accept deposits on Lifestyle courses. Once enrolment is completed students will receive a course confirmation either in writing or by email.  This course confirmation constitutes a receipt.
